Vitamins and Veins

Healthy veins are not something we think about on a day to day basis. Unfortunately it IS something we should be considering! While we mostly do what we can to keep our bodies healthy, it is important to note that taking a few vitamin supplements can help with vein health, which in turn helps with keeping your veins looking great! Some great supplements to take to keep your veins in top shape are Vitamin K, C, and E. Vitamin K is essential because it not only assists the body in bone formation, but also in blood clotting. If applied topically, Vitamin K can help strengthen capillaries which in turn can keep them from rupturing. Ruptured capillaries can appear as spider veins and splotchy skin, which is not what we want! Vitamin C is important because the body needs Vitamin C to help in the production of collagen and elastin- both of which are important tissues in veins that helps to strengthen them. By strengthening them, you will help painful swelling which can be associated with varicose veins. Lastly Vitamin E is used to help reduce the appearance of existing varicose veins as well as keeping new ones from appearing. Another thing Vitamin E has been noted to do is to help reduce pain for existing varicose veins, which can be very relieving. All in all, while we may not be able to fully prevent varicose veins, we are definitely able to take steps to ensuring that we have the healthiest veins possible, as well as helping to potentially reduce future vein issues!
