Did you know that alcohol and sunburn can both trigger facial or facial veins, but eating vegetables can help prevent them? Medical experts are unsure of the causes of facial veins, but we’ve got some tips that may help you. Here’s how you can prevent the development of facial veins.

Stay fit. Exercise increases blood circulation and help you keep of unwanted pounds. Both benefits will help prevent facial veins that can be caused by poor circulation and obesity.

Avoid sun exposure. Sunbathing too much or without protection will weaken the skin. Such exposure to extreme hot can also cause the skin to flush and trigger facial veins.

Have some grapes. Nutritionists say eating grapes gets the source of anthocyanins, an antioxidant, directly into the blood stream. This strengthens your capillaries and lowers your risk of facial veins. Anthocyanins are also found in bilberries.

Avoid the Booze. Drinking too much can also cause fine red lines to appear on your face and cheeks. Alcohol is known to cause the blood vessels to dilate but continued drinking can weaken the collagen causing veins stay open. This increases blood flow to the face triggering facial veins.

Be kind to your face. You should make sure not to wash your face with very hot or very cold water. These extremes in temperature can cause the skin to flush, triggering facial veins. Also, if you use a skin brush, always brush the skin when its dry. When skin is wet, your blood flow in increased and your skin is sensitive. Brushing already dilated vessels could cause facial veins.

Avoid unnecessary increases in hormone levels. Some hormones encourage blood vessel growth. If you are pregnant, taking the birth control pills, or undergoing hormone replacement therapy you will have increased hormone levels which could make you more prone to developing facial veins. Pregnancy also puts extra pressure on your circulation making facial veins in your legs more likely.

Get those vitamins. Vitamins C, E and K are all essential for maintaining good skin health.

  • Vitamin C helps your body build collagen – a protein that is the main connective tissue in muscle and skin. Less collagen means more sagging so facial veins could appear. Good sources of Vitamin C include citrus fruits, blackcurrants and peppers.
  • Vitamin E is a natural antioxidant which protects the skin and is also essential for protecting cell membranes. This strengthens the capillaries making facial veins less likely. Vitamin E can be found in olive oil, peanuts, leafy green vegetables and whole grain breads and cereals.
  • Vitamin K helps promote blood clotting to stop bleeding. Taking Vitamin K could prevent the tiny capillaries in your face from dilating. You can find Vitamin K in green leafy vegetables like broccoli and spinach and also in milk.
