No Vein, No Pain- Treatments for Varicose Veins

Varicose veins can be a serious disorder that restricts work and leisure activities for both men and women. Healthy veins return blood to the heart and lungs so they can be re-oxygenated. A system of valves make this happen by allowing the blood to flow in only one direction. When valves fail or leak, blood flows backward under the force of gravity and distends the veins. This backward flow, called “reflux,” causes blood to pool in the veins, resulting in varicose veins.

Varicose veins can cause pain, fatigue, itching, burning, swelling, cramping and throbbing. They can also lower your self-confidence. You shouldn’t have to hide your legs, there are treatment options!

ClosureFast™, also known as RadioFrequency Closure or endovenous RadioFrequency ablation, is an FDA approved procedure which has exceptional results. RadioFrequency Closure is a minimally invasive, walk-in/walk-out procedure. It takes one to one and a half hours and is performed under minimal I.V. sedation and local anesthesia. Patients generally only take one day off work following surgery. RadioFrequency Closure is covered by most insurance plans.

Ambulatory Micro Phlebectomy is performed separately or in combination with the RadioFrequency Closure procedure. It surgically removes large varicose veins near the surface through micro-incisions. The cosmetic affect is remarkable.

Foam Sclerotherapy is for the treatment of spider veins. This non-operative treatment uses micro-injection technology through very small needles using an FDA approved solution, Sotradecol. Compression hose are required to be worn by the patient after treatment. It usually takes 2 to 4 treatments, six weeks apart, to complete effective sclerotherapy. Sclerotherapy is considered cosmetic and is therefore not generally covered by insurance plans.

Laser treatments, like the Gemini laser, produce dynamic results on smaller spider veins. The laser treatment takes from 3 to 5 treatments, 6 to 8 weeks apart to affect the veins.

Varicose veins appear as snarled, bluish-purple lines usually occurring in the legs. Varicose veins and spider veins may be mild or they may cause severe pain. Either way, they should not be left untreated. Have a physician conduct a comprehensive evaluation to determine the severity of the condition and the best treatment option.
