Skincare Tips The EXPERT Recommends

aaaaskin

We asked our aesthetic nurse specialist, Joelle Greene RN, to share quick tips to health skin.

  1. Pour on the protection. Fill the hollow of your palm (about ½ teaspoon) with broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher and coat your face, neck and ears- daily.
  2. Look sun-kissed. Tinting your face with a tinted moisturizer or foundation gives the appearance of youthful skin. Using the sun to actually tint your face however is a big no-no.
  3. Eat a skin-saving breakfast. The first meal of the day is really the most important. Eating a food high in essential fatty acids, such as almonds, helps kick start the skin. It also helps stop inflammation, sagging, fine lines, and blotchiness.
  4. Zen your skin. If anyone experiences stress, they will appreciate this. High levels of stress and tension can spike hormone production that leads to breakouts or aggravates conditions like psoriasis. Controlling stress is easier said than done though, to help calm your skin, take 10 minutes to apply a facemask and relax in bed.
  5. Pair your products. Knowing that certain ingredients, like sunscreen and antioxidants work harmoniously together in the morning, and retinols and peptides are a great nighttime team will allow you to take full advantage of a product’s properties.
  6. Wear your veggies (and eat them too!) Frozen peas or gel ice packs help soothe itchy, irritated eyes. To reduce swelling and irritation on your face, placing frozen peas or corn over irritated areas is better than an ice pack because it forms to the contours of your face.

These tips will have you on your way to fresher, more beautiful skin, if you are looking for a more advanced treatment to your skin, contact Joelle for a complementary consultation!

Easy Exercises For Varicose Vein Prevention

aaaaaex

When you hear, “exercising will help prevent varicose veins,” you may think to yourself, “sure… but what kind?” We have the answer for you! These simple exercises can be done at home and will drastically help prevent varicose veins from developing!

Bicycle Kicks

These are best done on a padded surface like your bed or a yoga mat. Lie on your back and raise both legs into the air, then begin to kick your feet in a circular motion as if pedaling a bicycle in midair.

Ankle Flexes

Begin by lying on a comfortably padded surface. Bring your right leg up to your chest and hold it behind the knee. Point your toes into the air, flex your foot and rotate your ankle, then bring your right leg down and repeat on the left side.

Heel Lifts

Find a set of stairs; begin by standing on the bottom step with your heels dangling over the edge. Slowly push yourself up to your toes, holding a handrail for support if needed, then come back down gradually until your heels fall beneath the step again.

These are all easy exercises that can be incorporated into your daily routine, and you can do as many reps of each as you please. These will not only help improve your vein strength, they will also improve your legs and core, and who doesn’t love a workout that does more than one thing? Enjoy!
